Seam Welding
About Seam Welding Automation
Seam welding is a welding technique that bonds two metals together by making a series of overlapping spot welds that are created from two rotating roller electrodes. This form of welding creates a strong enough bond in the workpiece that makes it fluid and gas tight.
Automating this process with robotics can be easily accomplished via a custom-designed robot seam welding end-effector or a purpose-built seam welding machine that is tended by a robot. Robotically automating seam welding can drastically improve the quality and consistency of the welding bond.
Advantages of Seam Welding
There are a number of advantages to automating seam welding:
- The welding process can be easily automated with robotics
- Seam welding creates a clean, clearly defined weld
- Gases and thus fumes are not emitted during the welding process, making it a cleaner and safer process
- Seam welds can form liquid-tight and gas-tight joints making them ideal for storage vessels
- Seam welding can be used in conjunction with stainless steel, nickel alloy metals and magnesium alloy metals.
