Automation Engineer

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Automation Manager, the Robot Technician completes the integration, robot programming, debugging, installation, and customer startup of custom automated systems. This requires teamwork and good communication skills with other team members along with customers. Each project at MWES may require the Automation Technician to learn a new programming language or learn a new customer process to automate. Automation Technicians are required to complete service calls on automated systems MWES has provided along with other integrators. This will require travel to customer sites to analyze, identify, and repair system failures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Meets project schedules. Provides manufacturing manager and lead project engineer with timely status reports of projects
  • Reviews installation layouts, mechanical prints and electrical schematic drawings.
  • Modify existing control systems and robot software either in hours/ or in the field as needed.
  • Performs in-house testing on control components and systems. Performs equipment tests at vendor site as needed.
  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot programming for various robots such as ABB, Fanuc, and Kuka
  • Assists with panel wiring and mechanical assembly to meet project schedules
  • Travel as required, up to 25% annually to complete project and service tasks.
  • Supports customer training efforts.
  • Maintains a strong company presence and positive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to accomplish smooth system start-ups.
  • Perform field services duties as assigned
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance of customer equipment as assigned
  • Stay current on new developments in the industry.
  • Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in control systems activities; including familiarity with hardware design, PLC, HMI, Vision Systems and Robot programs for an Automation Company is preferred
  • Working knowledge of current programmable controllers and related technologies.
  • Knowledge of common control and computer architecture, networking, and interfacing with higher-level computer systems.
  • Must have own set of basic tools and be willing and able to assist technicians during installation and start-up. Some type of mechanical building experience is preferred.
