Automated Guided Vehicles/AGVs
Midwest Engineered Systems has been integrating Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) solutions into production lines, automated assembly systems and material handling applications for over a decade now. Backed by the experience of our in-house Application and Systems Engineers, MWES has a history of successfully integrating advanced automation technologies into a variety of industries and processes, at a scale where the need to move robotically and position workpieces becomes a necessity for efficiency.
AGVs are computer-controlled and wheel-based load carriers that are used to transport materials along the floor of a facility without the need for an operator. Their movement is powered by an internal battery and electric motors. Computer software is programmed to drive to specific points using sensor-based guidance systems. AGVs provide safe transport of loads and materials as they move on a path at a precisely controlled speed.
AGVs are commonly used to transport raw materials, work-in-process parts, and finished goods for manufacturing production lines, AS/RS Buffer Systems, and warehousing distribution applications. They are most commonly seen in the automotive, food and beverage, defense, manufacturing, paper and plastic industries, and demand for AGVs outside of these industries is continuing to expand.

Benefits of using Automatic Guided Vehicles
Minimal Human Operation
AGVs are designed to perform their set of operations without any additional guidance from the operators.
Decreased Work-Related Injuries
AGVs follow guided paths and will stop if they encounter an obstacle. The safety of the surrounding areas and personnel increases.
High Return on Investment
The upfront cost of designing and installing an automated guided system varies from one application to another, but over time, automated guided vehicles will prove to add efficiency and save on labor costs.
Midwest Engineered Systems has been integrating all forms of AGVs for our customers for well over a decade. If your process necessitates transporting heavy components around a production environment, then contact us today.
