What is ITAR

The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is a set of United States government regulations that control the export and import of defense-related articles and services on the United States Munitions List (USML). The ITAR is designed to ensure that U.S. national security and foreign policy interests are protected by preventing unauthorized transfers of sensitive technology, data, and weapons to foreign entities or individuals. The ITAR applies to U.S. persons and entities, as well as foreign persons and entities that deal with USML items or technical data within the U.S. or abroad. Violations of the ITAR can result in civil and criminal penalties, as well as denial of export privileges.
