Robotic Depalletizing of Spray Heads

The Challenge:

• Design a fully automated robotic depalletizing cell for hand packed spray heads.
• System must supply parts at a rate of 300 parts per minute
• Convey full or partial pallet loads to the depalletizing robot
• System must dispose of a variety of dunnage (corrugated and thermoform trays)
• Product must be conveyed to the capping machine in single file fomat
• Automatically stack pallets and send out stacks for operator pickup
• Visually inspect full layer of product before pickup

Solution:

The following methods, components and technologies were implemented and integrated to provide a comprehensive solution:

• Custom compliant end of arm tool to handle full layer picking
• Two coordinated robots working in close proximity to attain rate
• Custom integrated chain driven live roller (CDLR) conveyor system
• MWES pallet layer stripper Model LS1000
• Dunnage handling robot
• Fully automatic servo driven feed-screw combiner
• Integrated full layer inspection system
• MWES Model PS1200 pallet stacking machine

Impact to the Customer:

• Depalletizing rate of >300 parts per minut
• Complete "lights out" operation
• Complete trash (dunnage) sorting and handling system
• Complete part inspection
